Mt. Nittany UMC Preschool and Child Care:  "Where Kids Love to Learn"

Mt. Nittany UMC Preschool and Child Care, known as the place “where kids love to learn,” became a program of Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church in June 2014.  Prior to that it was privately owned an operated by Bonnie Spottts, who founded the program in 1994 to meet the needs of families in the State College region.

Director, Emily Gregory, sees the program as one that shares God’s love with children and their families, while the children are in a safe, caring environment. She feels the dedicated staff does an excellent job of preparing students for Kindergarten and beyond.

Mt. Nittany UMC Pastor, Rev. Edward Preston, feels the preschool creates a bridge between the church and families of the community and that it provides an opportunity to share a high-quality educational program in an atmosphere of God's grace.  Additionally, through projects involving the church’s missions, the children learn about giving and caring for others. A connection with Mt. Nittany UMC also opens the door for families without a church home to get pastoral care in times of crisis.

Located in Mt. Nittany Church’s facilities at 1500 E. Branch Rd., State College, the preschool is state-certified to serve a daily maximum of 53 children ages 2 through pre-kindergarten.  The facility has an experienced staff of three teachers and three aides. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and the Department of Education license the preschool. It also is recognized as a Keystone STARS Site under the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning.

Director, Emily Gregory is a retired public school teacher. Her Bachelor of Science degree from Clarion University is in the field of Special Education. She taught grades K-12 special education working with learning support, gifted, and life skills students.  Emily has a Masters of Education degree from Saint Francis University. She has served as an adjunct professor at Juniata College. Her experiences in the educational field are varied, including teacher training and student enrichment programs.

Fall and spring preschool hours are 9 a.m. to noon, with a Lunch Bunch program from noon to 1 p.m., and Adventure Afternoon program for 3-year-olds and pre-kindergarten children from 1 to 3 p.m.  Extended morning begins at 7:30AM and extended afternoon end at 4:30PM.
