Mt. Nittany Pre-School & childcare
Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church's educational facilities are rented for the purpose of a pre-school and child care center. Bonnie Spotts directs a certified staff concerned with nurturing and fostering the development of young children. Limited scholarships are available for families that establish the need. Bonnie may be reached at 234-3938 for information.
Philosophy:
At Mt. Nittany Preschool we recognize the joys and frustrations of raising young children. We want to work with you to foster your child’s development. Our flexible scheduling lets you choose full or part time and school year or full year programs. At school the children learn to socialize with their peers, build self-esteem, work within classroom limits, and form pre-kindergarten and kindergarten skills within a Christian environment.
We use hands on learning when exploring our world through art, music, stories, experiments, cooking, field trips, and play. Discipline is always approached positively, teaching the children to solve conflicts constructively. If you ever have questions, we are here to help. We make you and your child’s first school experience fun!

"Mt. Nittany Preschool is fantastic! Our daughter has been here from the three-year old program through kindergarten and we could not have asked for anything better. The teachers are all caring, loving, and intelligent. The curriculum is age-appropriate, fun, interesting and challenging! Our daughter was never bored and always wanted to come to school. We plan on having our son attend when he is old enough. I would recommend Mt. Nittany Preschool and kindergarten for every child!!” —Melissa Wasson

A SUMMER AT THE MUSEUM
We are excited to have the opportunity to extend our program to provide year around enrichment and care for preschool children.
We include children from the age of twenty-five months to those who have not entered first grade. The children are grouped in two classrooms—one for 2 and 3-year old children, and one for ages 4 through kindergarten. There is one teacher and one aide working with each group. The morning consists of a structured classroom with a large variety of activities to enrich their summer while giving them time to socialize. If you choose an extended day the children will eat a packed lunch, then have about one and a half hours of quiet time to regroup for the rest of the day. For our younger group, quiet time consists of activities such as reading, puzzles, snuggly animals, and/or sleeping if needed. Our older group (children entering the pre-kindergarten combination class, kindergarten or first grade in the fall) will engage in enrichment activities including centers designed to promote their growth. The remainder of the day may be slightly less structured than the morning, but will provide a variety of activities to keep the children involved.
Families may sign up for any number of weeks. The cost for the class portion of the day is a monthly or a weekly fee based on the number of days in attendance as follows:
Tues./Thurs.—June $105.00/ July & Aug. $140.00 a month/ or $45.00 a week
Mon./Wed./Fri.—June $150.00/July & Aug. $200.00 a month/ or $65.00 a week
5 days a week—June $243.75/July & Aug. $325.00 a month/ or $100.00 a week
The wrap around care is open from 7:30-9:00 and 12:00 to 4:30. This is contracted for hours needed based on $3.75 an hour. A monthly fee contract will be based upon your child’s summer schedule averaged into 3 payments. We will be closed June 4 to11, July 5, and August 30 to September 6.
Enrollment for the summer program begins on January 30. Families using care at least 10 of the 11 weeks of summer will be given first priority until March 30. After that, weekly registrations will be added until spaces fill. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Bonnie J. Spotts

The goal for women’s ministries at Mt Nittany is to provide time set apart for spiritual growth, deeper friendships, accountability and encouragement. At the very heart is each woman’s relationship with God, wherever she may be in that journey. From that relationship comes the desire to explore, discover, and grow in faith.
Stepping Up Bible Studies: Mondays or Thursdays. The name “Stepping Up” comes from a Beth Moore series on the Psalms of Ascent, which we studied in 2008. Also completed were A Woman’s Heart, God’s Dwelling Place (Beth Moore) and Anointed, Transformed & Redeemed (Pricilla Shirer, Beth Moore & Kay Arthur). Materials from completed studies can be borrowed from the church. Bible studies are open to everyone (church membership is NOT required) and there are no fees. Just decide to come and bring your Bible (if you do not have a Bible, one will be provided for you). During the summer of 2009, the Monday group will meet informally to discuss topics of general interest.

Pastoral Ministry
Joining the Church
So you’ve attended worship experiences and perhaps, a few other events here at Mt. Nittany and now you feel the Spirit of the Lord leading you to become an active member of the church family. The church has a programmatic membership course which is held every month for four sessions. You can schedule your place in the next course by calling the church office (237-35498).
Weddings So the question has finally been asked and a resounding “YESY” has been given. Now what??? Preparing for a life-long commitment is important. Pastor Howard is a certified Prepare-Enrich counselor and, using that assessment tool, will lead you on a meaningful and worthwhile discussion about married life.
Before anyone can be married in the church, they must have had approved pre-marital counseling. Weddings must be scheduled through the Office Manager (237-3549).
Administratgion of the Sacraments
There is nothing as spiritually significant as in the sharing of the sacraments. In the United Methodist Church, we observe two sacraments; Holy Communion and Baptism.
Holy Communion is a sacrament of remembrance as we reflect upon the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. But it is also a sacrament of promise, the promise of forgiveness and everlasting life. Holy Communion is experienced on the first Sunday of every month at both worship experiences and at other special times throughout the year. It is offered a number of ways; through intinction (dipping of the bread into the chalice), in the pews with the bread and juice passed by the ushers, and at the communion rail where we are able to kneel as we receive.
If you are in the hospital, nursing home, or home bound, please contact the church office and have a home communion visit scheduled. Every month a team of laity go into these various places to serve those who cannot attend here.
Baptism in the United Methodist Church is a sacrament which demonstrates our desire to publically profess our following of Jesus Christ. We share the baptism with people of any age, newborn through just prior to death. We experience it in a number of ways as well; either through sprinkling or full body immersion.
Before anyone can be baptized, they or their parent/guardian must meet with the pastor to discuss the meaning and significance of this blessed event. Such meetings may be scheduled through the Office Manager (237-3549).
Caring Fund The people of Mt. Nittany are incredibly generous. As part of their ministry of giving, the pastor has access to a discretionary fund to assist others in meeting some unexpected expenses or extraordinary personal needs. If you find yourself in such need, please call the Office Manager and arrange a meeting with the pastor.
Reception of New Members
Adults are invited through profession of faith or by letter
of transfer, to join Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church. Young
people, who are not yet members, are taken into the Church through
Confirmation classes. New members are taken into the Church several
times a year. Anyone interested in joining the Church may contact
the Pastor at 237-3549 for additional information.
Counseling If you find yourself in need of someone to speak with, our pastoral team is well equipped to discuss any of your concerns. Do you have a personal issue with which you struggle? Perhaps you find yourself in the midst of grief and would like to talk about it. Maybe there is a spiritual issue with which you wrestle. Regardless, give us a call (237-3549) and we’ll schedule time to chat.
Hospital and Shut-In Visits Should you find yourself a patient in the hospital or confined to your home, we have an active visitation ministry. A simple call placed by you, a family member, or friend is all that it takes to get the ball rolling. Simply call the Office Manager (237-3549) and she’ll take care of the rest.
